About Us

People Helping People Ministry and Outreach was born in the home of longstanding residents Samuel and Charlene Smith, located in southeastern San Diego, Broadway Heights Community.  Opening the doors to their home to troubled youth and their families in 2001 with a program called (GAOSAD), Going After Our Son’s and Daughter’s, the Smiths’ created quite a stir in their neighborhood This program served as a safe house for meetings, mentoring, and positive Christian activity.  Samuel and Charlene were local church goers, but believe they could do more to help with some of the social problems in their community.  They begin to meet regularly and had a large group of youth visiting everyday seeking connection and involvement.  This outreach effort gave rise to a community choir, dance team, food and bread programs, youth led community picnics, spiritual guidance for 23 unwed couples and eventually a fully supported ministry and 501c3 organization.

Charlene Smith who leads the organization is an ordained minister and community worker. She believes that organizations of faith, because of their faith; Can do more by engaging in strategic ventures that transcend beyond their faith, she believes partnering to do community services with corporate, private, and government agency to bring about change.  Our mission is to develop community models that teach the poor how to help themselves by becoming producers, as well as consumers.  These models can be replicated to yield more fruitful lives, provide services, generate employment empower the poor and help change long-term entrenched behaviors that promote poverty and spiritual decay.

She begins to attempt to network with local organizations, but quickly fines there is a lack of trust between individuals, organization of faith, and community organizations.  This lack of confidence has created barriers and hindrances to the process of creating value through mutual benefited joint ventures and partnerships.  The organization People Helping People with a focus of building core competencies and creating unique pathways that can be openly modeled eliminates barriers without compromising the mission of either organization.

Finding organizations with missions that can be meshed and synchronization is a challenge.   According to Harvard Business School, their research indicates there are four billion people around the world that have less than five dollars a day in disposable income, our community in southeastern San Diego is reflected in that four billion. Never in the history of time is there a need for creating social and economic value for what is considered bottom of the economic pyramid (BOP).  People Helping People, using a people helping people theme will help people take action to correct social evil in a society that preys on the weakest People Helping People represents a shift in paradigms focusing on deeds done to help organizations of faith in social and spiritual innovation that will effect that change.

Since conception, People Helping People Ministry and Outreach in eighteen years has touched thousands of people and continue to hold to the belief that organizations of faith, because of their faith; should do more to engage in strategic ventures that transcend beyond our faith into activities with corporate, private, and government agency.  When the missions are meshed and synchronization. Creating social and economic value for what is considered bottom of the economic pyramid (BOP) requires social innovation in an economy that is profit driven.  Through program models, it is possible to accomplish our mission to teach the poor how to help themselves by becoming producers, as well as consumers.  These models can be replicated to yield more fruitful lives, provide services, generate employment empower the poor and help change long-term entrenched behaviors that promote poverty.
